The best survival/ general use knife I have found is Cold Steel SRK. I got one Christmas 1999 and have used it hunting, camping, trail riding, and around the farm almost daily and it is still going strong.

Cold Steel has great blades. I stick with my blackjack 1-7.
Love the high carbon steel.
Always good to see some one talking knives and thank you.I still haven't sent my balisong by Pacific cutlery back yet for repair. Had this one since the 80's.

I re-discovered the kukri after all but forgetting about them since the early eighties. I have bought a few in the last 3 years or so, and I love them for light brush clearing, etc. I dont know if I could take someones head off with one swipe like the Gurkas, but I bet I could come close.

I've thought one of the longer blade kukris for the same use but I still use the old GI machete I covered in the rubber like coating on the handle.

I have a Bolo that was brought back from the P.I. that will take down up to 3" trees I carry on my saddle for brush clearing.
