Guys get em while you can. TAPCO is offering AMD-65 kits for $59.99. I think it is a weekend only sale. This is an unbelieveable sale. I tapped into some funds that aren't to be allocated and bought 4 sets. I don't think we'll ever seem them this cheap guys. I've got some friends who may want to build in the future and they'll get them for a few bucks more than what I paid. Not to mention, what they are worth in parts alone. JUMP ON THIS ONE GUYS!! I also picked up a Combo special with G2 group, pistol grips, piston for $49.99. This is also a pretty good deal. Here is a link to the kits. Also check out the home page for other deals.

**We are going to be running a sale on our standard kits today for $60.00, these ARE NOT the same kits that you all are getting. These are in fair condition. Just wanted to give you all a heads up.

??? I hope they will shed some light.
from what I understand at gunsnet it was posted that these kits were in fair to good condition and that there was no guarantee of numbers matching. Also the group buy there is supposed to be getting like new kits (buddy had posted some info in a thread there).

Non-matching #'s...thats not too big of a deal. And, they say they don't guarantee it, which doesn't mean it won't happen. I've always had pretty good luck with Tapco. If you guys are hesitating on this one, I sure would go ahead. You've only got till 12 noon to get your order in.

A friend of mine was going to order a few kits for himself and me, but we can't seem to get through to Tapco. He left a message on the phone, so maybe we can get in on the deal.

Guys I get mine in this afternoon...Monday. I placed the order on Friday and it was here today. I am very impressed with the 5 kits I got. They came with the accessories (mag pouch and cleaning kit). It appears that on all of my kits that the front trunnion, barrel, MB,pison tube, and front pistol grip all cam from one gun. And, the bolt, bolt carrier, piston, bolt cover, rear trunnion, rear pistol grip, and folder all came from a second gun. So, it doesn't appear that headspacing will be an issue. The barrel came installed in the trunnion. The only things I noticed that were wrong in 2 of the kits was the rear trunnion edge that rides over the upper rail was cracked on one side. I looked them over for a minute and think they need to be replaced. Also, on one kit the selector lever is really bent up. Last, one trigger gaurd looks like a piece of the receiver is melted on to it. I'm not sure If I'll be able to get it off without damaging it. Overall, I'm very happy with the kits. 2 of the kits look like they are almost new. The others just need to be wiped down a bit.I'll post pictures later!

Headspacing could be an issue with these. The headspacing is a function of barrel placement in trunnion determined by the lockup of the bolt. If the bolt number does not match the trunnion number, you better check that headspacing. All may be fine with this, but the only matching numbers that really matter are the bolt and trunnion, provided the barrel is installed and is from the same rifle as well. Just for S&G's I swapped my PMKMS and AMD-63 carriers (but not the bolt) and checked the headspace. The PMKMS will close on the "go" and will not close on the "no-go" with both carriers. When I put the AMD-63 bolt in my PMKMS, it will not close on the go gauge. I was going to check it with the WUM carrier, but I had to give the gauges back to their owner.

I'm pretty sure Tapco will swap out the damaged rear blocks for undamaged ones. I can't imagine why they wouldn't.

Take your time with the triggerguard. You may be able to cut it free with the dremel cutoff wheel. I'm assuming they torch-cut these to get the triggerguards off. If nothing else, work from the receiver side and grind off anything that isn't triggerguard...

How are the chambers and bores? Are the muzzles okay?

boy I hope mine are just as good. I woke up early today just to order, then went back to sleep. I am realy glad I did. I figure with a great place like tapco if I realy do not like it I can send it back with allmost nouthing to loose. I trust tapco and fully believe that my kits will be as nice as the ones you described. :)

Chamber and bores on mine look pristine. Some of them look new to me. A couple kits had dust and a little grease on them but that is all. They appear just to have been banged up a little more maybe when shipped. The finish is the biggest difference between the newers ones. Not that its terrible, but there are a few scuffs here and there. The MB's looked good too. One I got had a little bit of green stuff inside the brake...kinda like a green penny. There were also a few that had a small grind mark on the lower handgaurd part that fits in the receiver. But no biggee. Overall they look to be demilled great.

Great! I bought a 65 kit from Centerfire last year and it was pretty well worn. It was supposed to be one of the excellent condition kits, but I think I got one of the fair ones. 80% of the finish was worn off, and the FSB was knocked way to the left and one of the ears was bent. I stripped the kit apart and that was one of the two things wrong. Fixing the bent ear was easy and since I will be refinishing it anyway, the factory finish is a moot point.

The reason I asked about the muzzle was that my Centerfire kit looked like it had been dropped on concrete! The traditional rounded AK muzzle was pitted and scratched, but the bore was immaculate. I cleaned it up in the lathe by turning a decent target crown on it. I heard awhile back that some of the fair AK kits from other dealers were shot out so badly, a 7.62 round could be pushed into the muzzle up to the case shoulder! None of my kits looked like they had even had a round fired through them (THANK YOU Centerfire and Gunthings!!!)

I just got my kits today. Neither kit was "HANDPICKED" by any means, unless to say that there was one of everything, but I was pleasantly surprised by what I got. Here is what the BBT delivered:

KIT #1

finish about 75%, medium wear and metal showing through

Bore excellent, rifling crisp, no signs of pitting or corrosion

Non-matching Serial #, several thousand off, headspaced ok using NO-GO gauge.

Demilled properly and rivets still in trunions. No stray grind marks.

KIT # 2

finish about 50%, heavy wear and lots of metal showing through, plenty of scratches.

Bore excellent, rifling crisp, no signs of pitting or corrosion

Non-matching Serial #, several thousand off, headspaced ok using NO-GO gauge.

Broken front sight blade.

Demilled properly and rivets still in trunions. Stray grind marks on handguard, piece of the old receiver still stuck to the rear trunion.

Also in the box: two leather 4 mag pouches and 2 cleaning kits (a surprise), also included was TAPCO's version of the shepherd's hook (pin retaining clip) in the bag with both FCG's

I am very happy with what I got. Since I always plan to refinish my builds, the outside condition did not bother me. Everything else was great. And because I checked the headspace already, I don't have to worry about welding and redrilling the barrel.

I ran down the road to Kennesaw Georgia this afternoon and had the pleasure of conversing with the cute girls at Tapco.

I picked up a few of the kits and my impression of the condition agrees.

I've paid $60 for a trigger guard, selector lever, and trunnion. In my mind all the rest of the stuff is free.

the rear trunnion is separate from the folding stock.

Do they have some good looking girls? I just may have to make a trip down myself.

I got my $59 kit from Tapco today, and I must say I am VERY pleased. Finish is at least 80% with no bare metal, bore is outstanding, overall it's much nicer than my last AMD-65 kit that I bought for $79 dollars elsewhere. They even included the retaining spring for the fire control stuff. Also got 2 of the extensions, very nice also. :headspin:
