I just go this today. It is a Smith & Wesson Victory model that was made for sale, or lend lease to
Britain during WWII

After the handgun ban in England that said they could only own .22 caliber pistols, this Victory model was neutered to .22 mag. The chambers were sleeved, and I belive a new bbl was installed, not sure on that though..

Don't know how it made it into this country, there are no import marks..

If this could happen in England, it can happen here!!!

My Dad has one that was redone in Britain to chamber 38 special instead of the Brit 38 chambering. It has the Brit proof marks for the armory work. A ton of these were imported to the US in the 50's.

It has replacement grips and I would love to get him a set of original grips.

british gunlaws

Hi, I'am from the UK and the firearm laws here suck, about 20 years ago a nutter went lose with an AK 47 so no semiauto rifles only shotguns, semi .22's and bolt/lever action as these are less dangous!!!!!! 8 years ago a nutter went lose with pistols/ revolvers in a school so now no autos, revolver (unless the revolver is black powder,or has a 14" barrel) both were firearms certificate holders. If a nutter passed his driving test, bought a car and drove it into a crowd of people would they ban cars??

anyhow this gett's me to my main gripe, I read a quote from one of your members " when you outlaw firarms only the outlaws will have them" how true is this! it's easyier and quicker to buy illigel weopons now if you have the money, than it was when they were illigel. The gunlaws here are designed to take firarms of the streets so to speak but gun crime is more rampent than ever here, by the way my only weopon I have is a bolt action 7.62 for distance target shooting, now and again some of the members who squirreld away some now illigal weopons bring them out of hidding and we have a play. but my daughter who is 11 has and will never fire an outo pistol unless she travel out of the UK or joins the forces. You guys don't know how luckey you are when they first brought these laws in a lot thought they were temporay and we would get our toys back it hasn't happened yet. Don't ever let your government restrict your laws as you may well end up like the UK.Yours one extremlly fedup UK citizen

Dinger, Good post!! I especially liked the "If a nutter passed his driving test, bought a car and drove it into a crowd of people would they ban cars??" analogy. I'm glad we have a British brother on the board!!

Dinger, glad to have you with us.

I just hope the example set by your government helps keep US gunowners vigilant.

Other than that, we certainly sympathize with your plight.

They'll be imitations, but I think you can get reproduction grips from Numrich/Gun Parts Corporation. They're on the 'net.

Well, to make you feel a bit better...

You Brits can get sound suppressors for your airguns. Here in the States we can't 'cause our government sez they can be readily used for firearms - and suppressors for firearms must go through a Federal tax/registration procedure that's best avoided. Anyway, British sound suppressors for airguns can't be imported into the USA - I tried, that's how I found out that our government doesn't distinguish between them and suppressors for firearms.

hi dzerhinsky,I'm sure you guys can put together a suppressor if you really wanted one!! as the saying goes here in the UK " if ya can't buy it, make it"
I'm sure someone would do that but most folks don't want to incur the wrath of Federal Law enforcement.

Being a long term guest of Club Fed is not appealing.

Yep - what Custer said. Making a Maxim-design suppressor would be fairly easy, but I restrict my criminal behavior to crimes worth doing time for.

Dinger, you should move. Please keep us up to date on the imbecilic UK gun laws. Seems to me that by now the govt would have caught on that nothing has improved, but only got worse.

Of course, the govt will never lose face and say they're wrong.

I pray we don't get that stupid here. They're sure working on it.

thebigca, we've already surpassed the UK when it comes to silly airgun laws. As noted earlier in this thread, sound suppressors for airguns are available in the UK but not here. And the Junker airguns remain legal in the UK. There's been some chatter about them in the forums: They're a bb-gun built on an AK frame, astonishingly considered by BATFE to be a machine gun so not importable. A few made it into the country before BATFE came up with that creative bureaucratic nonsense, and they command pricey collectors' prices now: http://www.galeon.com/todoaire/yunker2/yunker2.htm

A while back California was attaining new heights of absurdity with a move to outlaw spud guns, don't know whatever happened with that.

I see that your laws don't like silencers, here in the UK we can get silencers for most if not all rifles, one reason being, our health and saftey laws say it's in the bennefit with regard to hearing damage through noise!!! as to new laws some of the weopons that we are alowed, .22 semi rimfire rifle, revovers with barrels of 14" and auto shot guns holding more than 3 rounds , there have been discussions of banning these also( the way its going here, they have jusy now banned fox hunting, we will only be able to have spud guns,
