post all this high $ gear bs just to make people jealous, and half of them who post such stuff probably can't afford a Mosin-Nagant,and dont fire 500 rds of centerfire ammo a year, and can't hit a barn from the inside,either.
What matters is the performance, of the shottist, along with his gear. A simple 6x Duplex retical scope, will show you any animal that it's practical to take with a 308. The 308 won't reliably expand a sp beyond 500 yds, because the remaining velocity is down under 1700 fps, and that just aint enough to reliably expand a big game softpoint, in flesh. So longer shots with this load are irresponsible and inhumane. A big buck's vital zone is a 10" circle,and that of an elk is 16" or more. That's not exactly a tough requirement of grouping. It IS, however, a tough requirement of shooting from a typical field position, and that of doping wind, andmirage, none of which a fancy scope is any help at.
