I am with j427x....It is high time to bring them home. Obama does not have the stomach for any kind of real fight.
Looking through General McChrystal's file I notice he spent most of his service after USMA, West Point in Spec Ops at Ft Bragg and Ft Benning however... he wears an EIB (Expert Infantry Badge) rather than a CIB (Combat Infantry Badge). That tells me he was not a combat commander in a war until he made field grade. There is a curious note about the CFR (Council on Foreign Relations - the leftist one-world people) in his background. That makes me wonder about their influence on his career/promotions etc.
To me this all sums up to be a political career and not a warrior.

WRT commanding an army, it's a shame that a career could be built on anything but warrior credentials.

I'm pretty sure the general mindset for those "in the know" is that no one thinks you can ever "win" in Afghanistan. Historically that's been the case through the centuries. thinking you can't win is the first step in going down the drain.
no one has ever put out a serious effort there. the soviets just candy ass-ed around and eventually pulled out. we are following right in their footsteps.
i have met the tangos on the battlefield. their chicken shit to the core. the only time they take or hold anything is when we pull out and hand it to them.
they have a hold of the population. how is that? the locals know if they don't go along with tango their children get raped and murdered.
all we have to offer is infrastructure projects. more free handouts to their corrupt officials.
to win we will have to crush the Taliban into dust. if we don't have the guts to do so they win. plain and simple.
it is either put out or pull out for us. none of that middle of the road is going to work.
one thing that hasn't been spoken about much is the results of a pull out.
if we hand that part of the world to our enemy how long is it going to be before their back at our doorstep?

I think your assessment is spot on. Another thing to think about is how we fight. I know not 1 soldier wants to kill innocents, but take a short look at history. Until Korea, we just pounded the enemy, country and civi's, into submission. We pounded them into submission and took the will to fight out of everyone in the country.
We have made war too civilized. It's still horrible, don't get me wrong. Military targets should be our main concern, as always, but if the fallout gets a few extra blocks...OOPs.
Quit rebuilding back better than was there. We didn't blow up a computerized school, stop building modern buildings where you destroyed a dirt hut! Running water? Why? They have to run for water at home, it won't be long before the pipes break and they will be running for water again. Poor people have poor ways.
