What is the attraction to the AK74?

I'm not trying to start crap or anything; I'm just curious.

All of my AK's are in 30-caliber, and I was wondering what the attraction is to the 5.45x39 as opposed to 7.62x39 or 5.56x45.

Current military issue rifle.

Cheap components.

Collectability.

Nice looks - definite "coolness" factor.

Many difference options/configurations.

Yet another AK to fill my safe. Like to have at least one of each :D

The 5.56mm AK is just a reworked AK for foreign sales and is not used buy the country of manufacture. Yes, it too is a variant but not a "military variant".
Oh that's on my summer list as well! AK-101

Okay, so those of you who have both a 5.45 AK74 and a .223/5.56 AK, which one do you prefer, and why?
Does an FNC count? It's practically an AK...

The 5.45 is lower recoil and by all counts I've read/viewed on the web, the performance in Afghanistan proves 5.45 is effective.

Honestly, I think I'm leaning more toward 5.45 these days. Then again, I plan to make an AK-101 clone this summer/fall. I must admit, the FNC is fun to shoot w/ the stock folded. :D

Having a SAR three and an AK 74; and trying to choose between the two of them; and then to reason out the choice--

Well it's like this: I've got a black wife and an Asian mistress. I generally prefer the Asian mistress because she's not a wife. However, if all's going well, I'm happy with the one I'm with. And none of that says a thing about the relative merits of black and Asian women.

OMG that is one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time!!!
