hey guys this is a long shot but I have a 2004 custom sportster that I would like to trade fore a plot of land in one of the free states. well and power are a bonus but I could use it. looking for a cheap home base to expand from or off of .basically a fith wheel spot to look for another bigger property from. rent or rent to own or trade. looking up north first then down south. I am not prepared to wait out a shift in power in this cell. would like to be able to come and view property this summer and work out something. let me know ...I understand this is a real long shot as we all have issues of trust but I am a family man with two daughters and a man of my word. just looking for options and a way out of this jack boot hell. thanks again guys. if anyone is interested let me know and I will send them pics and specs. adult ridden low miles.

Sounds like your right next door pretty much. Vt isn't a big move, but jobs can be a bitch sometimes if you'd considered here. There's lots of land around for sale so just check local realtors ect in the area you're interested in just to get a handle on costs. Just remember the winter drives when you pick a base ops.

The North East Kingdom has some nice property, but off the beaten path so jobs are all 50 miles away,at least,but if you want to get of the beaten path or grid,,that's the place. Lots of old retired hippies up there ,,:hippy::lol: And beautiful if you're a woods person. Awful mud season up that way though, so plan on being stuck for 1-2 weeks each spring if you live in the mountains and on a back road in that area. That's our 5th season,,,Mud Season, and that area gets hammered.

If not,,, around Burlington or Essex is a good area if you have a really good skill set and want to be more towards something resembling civilization and night life, with Plattsburg NY just across the lake for more,,night life and Montreal just 60 miles North! And Southern Vt there's Brattleborough and Bennington and those areas have a fair job selection with Mass, and NH close by, with the Boston and NYC night life if you like that type of stuff. There's a bit of everything available actually , but you need some desirable/high demand skills to make a living in Vt.

best part,,,pretty decent gun laws and pretty good folks !!! The Real Vermonters are generally pretty good folks for the most part and don't want to be fussed with and will leave you alone if that's what you want, or they'll be there to help you out if you need help.

AND,,those are some of the reasons I passed on 2 different occasions when considering buying property in Upstate NY, APA, EPA,tax's, fucked up laws, fucked up people, on and on,,,,No Thanks I'd considered one property after returning from Nam,an old 1700's farmstead, and the other time, just a year -year and a half ago,a 100 acre hunting property for a camp a half dozen of us were going to go in on.

With NY like it is now,,,Boy am I glad I made the right decision and stayed in Vt !!

Well the only thing I can suggest is northern and central PA has some fairly cheap land, it's as free as your going to get in the NE, this state follows federal firearm laws so everything that is in the books in DC are what they are here, and the climate wouldn't be much different.
Now if you get closer to the cities the costs go up.

don't much like cities and would feel better raising my girls in the country. i have considered VT as I go to a specialist for my right arm up in south burlington and a Harley dealer in Essex . I have worked a lot on fort drum in ny and fort lee in Va doing construction . I did a lot of telecommunication down it TX fiber LAN a lot of office building in dallas in the late 90s. I have always wanted to open my own fabrication shop. I built a couple chops and fix my uncles hay machines and tractors .I got an interest in metal from my grandfather and took welding and machine trades in high school 25 years ago. I have a lot of skills and should have no problem finding work. but like twa2471 said travel time to a job is something to consider. longer and often times more dangerous in the sticks where I would want to be . school are an issue but the wife and I have wanted to home school. more my wife because I took on nursing school while I was convalesing and to pass the time between surgeries on the arm. got a year from finishing and hade to help my wife take care of my grandparents in their declining years . they lived on the St. Lawrence river in a small camp with my grand fathers shop and a great view of Canada out he front windows. didn't mind not finishing because I learned what I needed and then some. we are in need of change in our lives as the obligations to my grandparents are over, and with the recent decline in our rights it has me wanting to move faster to get out of ny. I am open to all suggestions and welcome all input gentlemen.

I left there in the nick of time too.Moved out here to Colorado 2 years ago and don't miss NY one bit.
Unfortunately some of NY's influences(Bloomberg) found it's way out here and were fighting back hard!.
If I were to move from here I would probably head towards Wyoming.

j4 is correct. I feel very lucky to have the pitiful job that I have, but it pays the bills. And that's only because the cost of living is fairly low. Land can be had for pretty cheap, if you stay away from the yuppie centers, pretty much the same places that j4 mentioned. The gas fields around Greenbriar seem to have some jobs for now, but its roughneck type work. I love Arkansas, I don't want to live anywhere else, and I've been all over. But good money has always been an issue here. But in any case, you would be welcomed! Come on down and rough it with us.

Look in Oklahoma , we are experiencing a boom right now with jobs and the economy. Texas is also doing extremely well. Just a word of advice , I live in rural area, that means a 30 to 60 mile commute to any decent job. Its not like the east coast. However our gun laws are great, and as I said everything is booming right now.

all these ideas are sounding preeeeety gooooood.in a few months I will be able to make some sort of decision as my situation will be changing. I am looking for rural and don't mind a commute and I have plenty of skill to pick up a job quick if there are any around.i did here that Texans hate Yankees with a u-haul almost as much as they hate cattle rustlers..... I lived in north dallas for a couple years when I was in the telecom business , i ran thousands and thousands of miles of cable all over texas.love the south and am torn between going farther north or heading back to a more arthritis and 2nd amendment friendly state in the south. keep the ideas coming I can use all the advice from you guys I can get. thanks again.

Havent been on here in awhile. Ive since moved out of new yuck . moved the family to cental mo...took about a year to complete the move with multiple trips. One of the worst ones was the truck load of guns and ammo, thankfully i have a locking tonneau cover on my truck but i was real nervous even with my 12ga coach gun in the cab with me and my dog. We settled in here in august at my brothers house , then we were able to find a small farm house with a little land , not much but it is in the school district we wanted. Havent built any aks here yet but a couple ars have been built. It was great to put all my rifles back to correct configuration and dumped the stupid thorsden stocks in the mp on the files. Been busy working on the new hous as it is a It of a fixer upper. Cant wait to build a few of the kits i stashed when life slows down. Got the mill and lathe set up at my brothers in his shop just need the time. Nice to be back...but seems quite here. Im gonna try and be more regular around here and spit my time i spend on the files and here. Anyway howdy from central mo...even rob ski moved out here!
