I've been looking around at the prices of parts kits and they are still around $350 for a complete romy G kit on gunbroker.

But I have found a way to get a Romy G kit all matching numbers under $200

I never had the greatest luck with these guys but others have had great luck with them.

Romy G kit all matching numbers without barrel $99
Romanian AK Parts Kit - 7.62x39 #KIT-ROM-1975-NB

US made Ak47 barrel $79.99 (made for the Polish U/F but mostly the same demensions)

Seems like the best deal out there. $180 for a Romy G kit with US barrel.

Now if you want a nice unique AK47 parts kit how about a MAADI kit for under $220

From our very own sponsor APEX Gun Parts for $135

US made Ak47 barrel $79.99 (made for the Polish U/F but should work.... please correct me if wrong)

For all you builders this is some great pricing...

You're right sj 210 for a 74 with a barrel is quite a deal it seems for a 74 heck that's akm pricing lol and all the egyptians I've seen from apex look nice. I also bought one of the 99 dollar romy g's from centerfire when they had free shipping too and I was pleasantly suprised with the condition (that's because you never can be too sure with center fire)

Both the APEX Maadi kit, and the Bulgarian 74 kit are very nice kits, and a great deal for the money. I plan to build more of both.

If ya got a lathe an tooling you can do a AK kit with barrel for about $135. just use the GM barrel blank and profile it to what ever you want. or even cheaper is use a .308 bolt action barrel take off barrel for less.

I recently did a pistol and I had about $120 in it completly finished. Taco blank 1 barrel from a enfield recontoured . I actualy had less as I sold off the stock and FSB, for $15.

A cheap AK can still be built but it takes labor and tooling and time.

I had about $200 into a recent rifle from misc parts that was compliant and had a AR 15 colaposable stock to boot. It uses a .308 bore barrel and I hand load for it for hunting.

While not appearing cheap at first blush, the Tula trunnion Bulgarian AK47 kits at Cope's are a surprisingly good value. Add that same Polish barrel posted by Gunco, and you have a Soviet AK47. Doesn't get any more authentic than that and at the price, quite a value!

$299, Cope's Distributing

Blue, if you started now, worked 24/7 on building all 2000 of those kits u have stashed away, maybe u would be finished w/ all of them in about 50 years!:notworthy

Yeah amendican told me all about how smooth and nice 74's are and how happy he is with his apex kit so I'm craving one bad. A guy can still build a cheap ak now days, true its no longer the days of 69 dollar romy g's with barrels (I wish I was building back then lol) but it's hard to complain too much about guns costing 250 or less to build when compared to any other rifle out there. The only rifles I know of that are cheaper are mosins and some mausers. Maybe us ak builders that sometimes think aks are expensive should price out or even build a fal, ar or an m14 lol ;) (I belly ache about ak kit prices as much as the next guy by the way)

I picked up a Cope's Tula AKM kit and was very happy with what I got. The trunion doesn't match the rest of the parts, but my bolt, carrier, gas tube, and top cover all match. Surprisingly, the type of parts match the era of the trunion. Most of them, anyways.

My trunion is a 1970, so according to the Russian gurus at theakforum.net, the rifle should have been made mostly with machined parts. I ended up trading a front sight block with another member there and now my rifle should match a 1970 tula AKM very well.

I picked up a $100 romy virgin barrel from apex and it should come out pretty nice on a NDS-1 with russian fire control engravings. $500 for a russian AKM look-a-like is pretty good in my book! I can't wait to get this AKM done so I have one with a tula star on it.

I am also putting together a barrel-less ak74 kit on a bulgy barrel. Nodak has some cheap NDS-3's that only need the mag well dremelled out. It's a perfect time to get a AK74 built on the cheap these days.

$210+$43 for the receiver and you're done! That's cheap!

That is cool Flintoid. I kinda wish I had made some different parts kit purchases this last week. I was going by my list, but the Tula marked kits weren't available when I made my list, dangit!!!!!!

just another kit and an idea

I purchased a milled underfold kit from apex, bent a stamped reciever, built a screw kit,did not finish the wood, did a ugly paint job.took it out put the first 200 rounds thru it perfect, kept them all in the bullseye area at 50 yards. My friend took his very nice looking CENTURY ARMS underfold and man that thing was ALL over the target. and IM only in to it for about $230........My next one I would like to build a SUOMI AK by using my suomi stock,AK reciever, and pistol grip , blow back of course an the suomi barrel and cover it would be worth the try.
